“Arm yourselves with the same way of thinking.” — 1 Peter 4:1
Faith is easy to talk about when life is comfortable. But what happens when following Christ becomes costly?
Peter’s words in 1 Peter 4:1–11 remind us that we are not called to live according to the pressures and desires around us. Because Christ suffered for us, we are called to arm our minds with His attitude, live according to God’s will, and use our lives to glorify God.
Daniel gives us a beautiful picture of this kind of faith. Daniel lived in Babylon, surrounded by a culture that was very different from his faith. Yet Daniel made a decision before the greatest tests came: he would remain faithful to God. When he was pressured to compromise, he stood firm. When prayer became dangerous, he continued to pray. When he was thrown into the lions’ den, his circumstances changed—but his commitment to God did not.
Daniel teaches us an important truth: what we settle in our hearts before the trial prepares us for how we respond during the trial.
Peter also reminds us that living for God may sometimes make us different. We may not always be understood. Choosing God’s will may mean saying no to things that others consider normal. But our calling is not to live for people’s approval; it is to live for God’s will. And our faith is not only about what we refuse to do. Peter calls us to actively love deeply, show hospitality, pray, and use the gifts God has given us to serve others.
Daniel’s life shows us that faithfulness can become a witness. His integrity, prayer, courage, and service eventually caused kings to recognize the greatness of his God.
That is the heart of Living Hope.
We don’t know what tomorrow will bring. But we can decide today whom we will trust.
Arm your mind with Christ.
Live according to God’s will.
Love and serve others.
And let your life point people to Jesus.
